El doctor Francisco Orozco Lomelín, vicario general y obispo auxiliar de la Arquidiócesis de México, en un mensaje a todas las parroquias del Arzobispado y en la entrevista del Universal, el 4 de septiembre, informó que la Catedral Metropolitana no fue agraviada ni profanada por lo que no autoriza ningún acto de desagravio que algunos organismos tratan de realizar, además de puntualizar que los estudiantes entraron el 27 de agosto con permiso del sacerdote Jesús Pérez, a tocar la campana.
