Escritor y político. Fue presidente de Venezuela de febrero a noviembre de 1948. Es considerado el novelista venezolano más importante del siglo XX. Es distinguido con el doctorado Honoris Causa por diversas universidades, Ganó el Premio Nacional de Literatura (1958). En 1960 fue elegido Comisionado y primer Presidente de la recién creada Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, órgano de la OEA en Washington, D. C., cargo que ejerció hasta 1963. En las imágenes aparecen Ignacio Chávez, Efrén C. del Pozo, Max Aub, León Felipe, Jesús Silva Herzog, Pita Amor y Octavio Paz, entre otros personajes.
